One resident was transported to a local hospital late Wednesday night after a fire broke out in the garage of a home in The Villages.
Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) units were dispatched at 10:51 p.m. to the 9000 block of SE 172nd Garden Street in the Ivystone Villas after a 911 caller reported that their garage and house were on fire.

The first crew to arrive, Rescue #510, discovered a small fire within the garage. Firefighters were able to initiate an immediate attack using a water can to keep the flames from spreading further into the living quarters of the home.
Additional support was provided by units from The Villages Station #10, Belleview Station #18, Weirsdale Station #27, and Spruce Creek Station #30.

While no injuries were reported among the firefighters on the scene, one resident was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire was officially declared under control at 11:09 p.m.
Photos from the scene show a golf cart inside the garage that appeared to have sustained damage during the incident.

The exact cause and origin of the fire are currently under investigation by fire officials.
