Wildwood will build a police substation and public works building to serve the Middleton and Eastport areas of the city.
Commissioners approved conceptual plans for both buildings Monday night.
They will be located at the intersection of Central Parkway and Marsh Bend Trail west of the fire station on land The Villages is donating to Wildwood.
Renderings by KP Studio Architect of Ocala and OLC of Orlando have gone through preliminary architectural review and were approved by staff. The next step is to seek formal design contracts for each building.

“We’re going to move forward with the final designs,” said City Manager Jason McHugh.
Commissioner Joe Elliott said he’s glad Wildwood was able to work with The Villages to acquire the land instead of leasing it while Mayor Ed Wolf said the renderings show “a nice looking facility.”
The substation will support many police activities.
Behind the lobby and reception area, plans call for a training room, chief’s office, administrative offices and rooms for evidence, reports, child interviews, conferences and storage.
The design also has space for an 855-square-foot addition.
The 6,140-square-foot metal and painted stucco public works facility will include two large storage areas, a work room and office. It also will have space behind the building for equipment parking, material storage and 21 parking spaces.
