Mysterious, unsanctioned signs have popped up at a place known as an ad hoc dog park in The Villages.

The green space along Morse Boulevard between the Village of Charlotte and the Village of Osceola Hill has been a favorite spot for many years for residents taking their pooches out for exercise and a potty break.

Recently, about a half dozen signs were planted on the District-owned property, reminding dog owners to “Please, clean up after your pet.”

It’s not clear who put the signs there and an administrator with the District Office said the signs have not been placed there in an official capacity.

In 2018, the same piece of District-owned property became contentious after a Premier homeowner had complained about the noise and smell from dogs on the public green space in back of his residence. The Project Wide Advisory Committee was prepared to build a $5,000 fence to block off the green space from Villagers and their pets in a bid to protect the offended property owner. When the news appeared in Villages-News.com, dog owners protested before PWAC and the fence project was canceled.
