The Project Wide Advisory Committee is looking at spending an additional $107,655 for aquatic weed control at Lake Sumter.

PWAC’s contract with Solitude Lake Management LLC will swell to $1.2 million per year with the additional work being added for Lake Sumter. The PWAC contract also provides for pond maintenance south of County Road 466. Work includes treatment and control of aquatic weeds and nuisance vegetation, maintenance of beneficial aquatic plants, water quality management, shoreline and littoral maintenance, algae and invasive species control, litter removal within pond perimeters, routine site inspections, herbicide applications, reporting, and emergency response services.

Solitude Lake Management LLC handles aquatic weed control at ponds in The Villages.

PWAC members will consider the contract revision when its members meet at 8:30 a.m. Monday at SeaBreeze Recreation Center.

In 2023, PWAC balked at a contract renewal with Solitude in the amount of $825,948. They thought the 40 percent price hike was too high.

The District Government turned to Crosscreek Environmental Inc. for aquatic weed control, but that relationship soon soured, forcing The Villages to once again turn to Solitude.
