Villagers who use the Savannah Center pool are concerned that the water is getting too hot for healthy participation.

The members of a large water volleyball group appeared Wednesday morning before the Amenity Authority Committee to express their concerns.

Villagers said there were three recent medical emergencies at the Savannah Center pool, caused by the warm water temperatures.

The water volleyballers pointed to the fact that last year the Project Wide Authority Committee, which oversees amenities south of County Road 466, agreed to invest in water cannons to reduce water temperatures at sports pools.

In their appearance before the AAC, which oversees amenities north of County Road 466, residents asked that water cannons be purchased for the sports pools at Savannah Center and La Hacienda Recreation Center.

The AAC previously dismissed the idea of purchasing water cannons for the sports pools. Each water cannon costs about $8,000.

Recreation Director John Rohan said that the water cannons in use elsewhere in The Village are being operated three days a week during the hot weather months. He said they have been successful in reducing water temperatures at the pools.

AAC members Bill Williamson and Jim Vaccaro both said they prefer chillers for the pools rather than water cannons. Chillers would be about $13,000 each.

However, the contingent of water volleyball players said they wanted water cannons. The AAC voted to move ahead with the water cannons, prompting cheers and applause from the water volleyballers.
