A resident of the Lake Sumter Apartments on County Road 466 was arrested after crack cocaine was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Officers were conducting targeted enforcement in the area of Susan and William Streets at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. While there, they saw 25-year-old Trinzaeleon Marquez Thomas run a stop sign in a black Acura sedan.

The vehicle ultimately stopped on William Street, where the officer learned the front windows had an illegally dark tint. He also deployed his K-9 partner to check for narcotics and got a positive alert on the front passenger door. During a subsequent search, the officer found a cellophane wrapper containing 1.7 grams of crack cocaine in an open storage area at the top of the passenger-side door, the report said.

Thomas was the only person in the vehicle, but he could have easily thrown the narcotics to where they were found. Additionally, when asked if anyone else had been in the vehicle, Thomas refused to answer. The vehicle was registered to his mother, but he primarily used it as his own, the report said.

He was arrested on charge of possession of crack cocaine. He was booked at Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.

Thomas was also arrested in May 2022 after allegedly fleeing from the police and in Dec. 2020 on drug charges.
