Residents can apply for a seat on the Community Development District 8 Board of Supervisors which was mired for years in a controversy over a little white cross.
Earlier this month, longtime Supervisor Duane Johnson resigned from his seat on the CDD 8 board.
Last year, the CDD 8 board awarded $70,000 to Villager Wayne Anderson after a protracted legal battle over his little white cross. The CDD 8 board also incurred $173,000 in legal fees in its battle with Anderson.
Now residents are being encouraged to apply for the vacancy created by Johnson’s resignation. The term runs through November.
CDD 8 includes the villages of Buttonwood, Bridgeport at Creekside Landing, Bridgeport at Laurel Valley, Pennecamp, St. Charles, St. James and Tamarind Grove.
Any interested applicants must be a qualified elector which is defined by Florida Statute 190 as “any person at least 18 years of age who is a citizen of the United States, a legal resident of Florida and of the District, and who registers to vote with the Supervisor of Elections in the county in which the district land is located.” To obtain additional information or request an application, contact Jennifer Farlow, District Clerk at (352) 751-3939 or obtain a copy of the application by clicking here.
