A Michigan man has been released from jail after serving time in the wake of a SWAT standoff last year in The Villages.

Darrel Colin Fuson, 47, was released from the Sumter County Detention Center after a judge sentenced him to time already served behind bars. He’d spent four months and 16 days in jail.

A woman fled a home on Evelynton Loop in the Village of Lynnhaven at about 7:30 p.m. May 2, 2025 and ran to a neighbor’s house, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The neighbor called 911.

When deputies arrived on the scene, the woman was “crying heavily and appeared greatly distraught.” She was holding a bag of ice against her face. A deputy suspected the woman’s jaw was broken or dislocated. The deputy had a difficult time understanding the woman.

She said that Fuson began drinking at about noon that day. He struck her on the side of her face, causing her to fall back. He also broke her phone when she attempted to call 911.

He barricaded himself in the home. Deputies made multiple attempts to persuade Fuson to come out, but he refused. When the woman told deputies Fuson was likely in possession of “a couple of firearms,” the SWAT team was summoned.

SWAT team members entered the home, tasered Fuson and took him into custody.

A teletype from the Farmington Hills, Mich. Police Department indicated there was a no contact order in place for Fuson and the woman he allegedly attacked in The Villages. The no contact order was issued after an alleged domestic assault in Farmington Hills, Mich.

Fuson was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, resisting arrest and criminal damage to property. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released on bond three weeks later with strict orders from a judge not to contact the woman.

He was arrested again on Nov. 18 when he violated the judge’s order. He remained in jail until this past April 4.
