A Wildwood man was arrested for battery after allegedly shoving his girlfriend’s son to the ground due to feeling disrespected.

Officers responded to the home of 50-year-old James Wade Cason on Pleasant Dale Drive regarding a domestic disturbance around 11:25 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

Upon arrival, they saw multiple people yelling and screaming, and heard what sounded like objects being thrown in the side porch area. Cason was seen yelling and initially ran into the side entrance of the home. The officers commanded him to come back out while they went inside to interview his girlfriend and her son, the report said.

The girlfriend advised that Cason had been drinking all day and had gotten into multiple verbal arguments with her and her son. There were several occasions where he aggressively approached her son and bumped chests with him. She did not see what started the physical incident, but she heard a crash and looked to see Cason standing over her son, the report said.

The son corroborated that Cason had been drinking throughout the day and had been aggressive toward him. While in the side porch area, Cason pushed him on the chest with both hands, causing him to fall to the floor. A cabinet near the entryway door then fell on him. He did not feel safe with Cason at the residence and described him as a “psychopath,” the report said.

As for Cason, he stated he had been drinking at a friend’s house down the street before returning home. He felt that the son had disrespected him, but he denied any physical altercation. When asked about the cabinet and an overturned laundry basket in the porch area, he stated it had been in that condition for some time, the report said.

Cason also voiced his concern that the incident could violate the terms of his probation. He became a violent felony offender of special concern out of Sumter County on March 19, 2026. He is not to be released from probation until March 15, 2031, the report said.

During the investigation, it was determined that Cason and his girlfriend had been in a romantic relationship and lived together for five years. Cason had resided with her son in a fatherly role, the report said.

Cason was ultimately arrested on charges of battery and probation violation. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center without bond.

He was also arrested in Dec. 2023 for driving with a suspended license, in Aug. 2017 for stealing $16k in items from a storage unit, in March 2017 for stealing a Villager’s wallet, and in Nov. 2014 with a handgun reported stolen the year prior.
