A Summerfield man and his Williston companion were arrested on drug charges after being stopped at the TA Travel Center in Wildwood.

A deputy stopped a dark Cadillac at the TA Travel Center on State Road 44, for stopping over a solid white line around 10:20 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. After approaching the vehicle, the deputy spoke to the occupants, 24-year-old Brandon Michael Joles and 33-year-old Destiny Nicole Humphreys-Ruetz.

Because Humphreys-Ruetz was driving, she was asked for her license. She reached around and moved some items in the back, during which the deputy noticed a pill bottle with a clear plastic baggie inside. This seemed to be an attempt at hiding narcotics, the report said.

Another deputy subsequently responded to the traffic stop to assist in searching the vehicle. He found a clear plastic baggie of marijuana in the center console, right above Joles’s ID. A record check showed he had an expired medical marijuana card, the report said.

A closer look at the pill bottle spotted earlier determined the name had been scratched off. There was another pill bottle with the same characteristics under the front passenger seat, and it contained three plastic bags with methamphetamine inside. A final pill bottle in the backseat contained numerous gabapentin pills, and in the trunk sat a case of Narcan and drug test kits, the report said.

Joles was arrested on charge of possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams). He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Marion County put a hold on his custody. Joles, who has a lengthy criminal history, Joles was arrested last year in a hit-and-run crash.

Humphreys-Ruetz was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine and a harmful new legend drug without prescription. Her bond was set at $2,500.
