A Wildwood man was arrested for battery after allegedly slamming his girlfriend to the ground when confronted about watching porn.

An unidentified witness called the police regarding 36-year-old Juan Carlos Rivera Reyes and his girlfriend of three years fighting in the parking lot of Cypress Commons, located at 775 Huey St., around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Dispatch learned Rivera Reyes was on top of his girlfriend, but he was already walking toward the entrance of the apartment complex before law enforcement arrived.

The responding officers spotted him toward the front of the complex, where he stopped to speak with them. He stated that he was in the house, and his girlfriend followed him out because she thought he was “watching porn.” He denied anything physical happening, the report said.

His girlfriend also accused him of talking to another woman, and he referred to her as “crazy.” He had a rip in his pajama pants that he claimed came from his dogs, the report said.

The officers proceeded to speak with the girlfriend, who confirmed an argument began inside the residence when she confronted Rivera Reyes about watching pornography on his work phone. He immediately put the phone in his pocket and left. She followed him outside, telling him their relationship was over and that he needed to leave, the report said.

Rivera Reyes started calling her names and using profane language. As she turned back toward the apartment, he approached her from behind, wrapped his arm around her neck and slammed her to the ground. She sustained open cuts and what appeared to be fresh blood on her fingers, the report said.

The girlfriend continued, describing how she got up and repeated that he needed to leave. He then threw a white lighter that hit her left elbow and left a red mark. There were also three red marks on her neck and a bruise on her left arm. She stated the bruise was from a prior incident about a week ago, during which Rivera Reyes threw a chair at her, the report said.

Rivera Reyes was subsequently arrested on charge of battery and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center without bond.
