The Sumter County Board of County Commissioners has approved the waiver of fees for residential yard debris disposal beginning May 9.
This waiver will remain in place until the end of the current burn ban. Due to dry conditions and increased fire risk, outdoor burning is currently prohibited in Sumter County. The burn ban helps protect the community, firefighters and natural resources by reducing the risk of wildfires.
To provide residents with a safe and legal option for disposing of yard debris, fees for residential yard debris will be waived at the Citizens’ Drop-Off Area, located at 819 CR 529, Lake Panasoffkee. Residents may bring yard debris, such as branches, leaves and yard clippings, for free disposal from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Debris must be unloaded by the resident by hand, so only bring what you can safely unload yourself. This limits the size and amount of debris that can be accepted.
Recycling is also available at the CDA at no charge for residents. Recycling bins are available for aluminum, plastic and cardboard
The CDA also accepts other household items, including residential garbage and larger items like furniture. These non-yard debris items are subject to the fee schedule posted on the website.
