A woman was arrested after allegedly shattering her boyfriend’s windshield and hitting him in the head with a brick, landing him at the hospital in The Villages.
A deputy responded to a physical altercation between 29-year-old Mariah Disyari Mata and her boyfriend of five years at their Summerfield home around 7:40 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement arrived to find the boyfriend sitting on a bench in the front yard. He had a substantial amount of blood on his arm, chest and left side of his face. There was also a laceration on the left side of his head close to his ear, the report said.
He explained that during a verbal altercation, he went to his vehicle to leave. Mata responded by putting two bricks on the hood on his car, which concerned him due to the bricks scratching the paint. Mata then picked one of them up and threw it at his windshield, shattering it, the report said.
The boyfriend started to walk toward her, so she armed herself with the other brick. As he got closer, she swung it at him and hit the left side of his head. He proceeded to grab her and pinned her to the ground to stop her from hitting him again. Her family subsequently came outside and separated the couple, the report said.
He was transported to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital in The Villages, for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the deputy spoke with Matain the front yard, the report said.
She admitted she woke up that morning on the “wrong side of the bed.” She and her boyfriend started arguing over plans to go to the beach with family because it was Mother’s Day that weekend. He then went outside, which she did not want him to do. She assumed he would try to fix things, the report said.
The rest of her statement corroborated her boyfriend’s, including throwing one brick and hitting him with another. Her mother had also seen the boyfriend on top of Mata, who was bleeding at the time, the report said.
Mata was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief (damage property). She was booked at Marion County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.
