Lusella McClard Jones died May 11, 2026, one day before her 86th birthday.
She was born on May 12, 1940 in Neelys Landing, Missouri to Harry Newton McClard and Myrtle Alice Craft McClard. However, she never knew her birth mother. She was raised primarily by her step mother, Mildred Cobb McClard. Lusella faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where she became a Christian on Easter Sunday 1948. Her faith brought joy and sustained her throughout her entire life, and she taught her children and grandchildren about the knowledge and peace that knowing Jesus brings. She lived her last days looking forward to being with the Lord in Heaven.
Lusella married the love of her life, Donald Eugene Jones on June 1, 1958. Don nicknamed Lusella, “Lucy”, and it stuck. Lucy and Don had the opportunity to travel the world with the Air Force meeting many lifelong friends and sharing amazing adventures that Lucy captured by saving brochures, postcards, pictures, and even sand.
Lucy enjoyed her time as an office clerk for the Austin Independent School District, but she would tell you that her biggest accomplishment was being a mom to her 3 children and then MeMaw to her 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She invested her time, talents, and treasures making sure they knew they were cherished and loved.
Lucy also loved spending hours documenting genealogy and making connections with family members. You better watch out if you decided to take her on in a game of Wahoo, Corn Hole or Ping Pong. She was an unexpected, fierce competitor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry McClard, Myrtle McClard, and step mother Mildred McClard; her five brothers Donald McClard, Marvin Mason McClard, Hershel McClard, Truman McClard, Elvin Dean McClard, step brother Raymond Shackles, and nephew Steven McClard.
She is survived by her husband of almost 68 years, Donald Jones of Reno, Nevada; son, Mark Steven Jones and his wife Shannon of The Villages, FL, and his children Shelley Jones and Carson Jones; son, Brent Kevin Jones and his wife Candice of Des Moines, Iowa, and their children Lauren Sprinkle, her daughter Braelyn and son Jonah, Britain Jones and her wife Yoli, and Ryan Jones and his wife Alicia; daughter, Jennifer Dawn Ingram and her husband Paul of Carson City, NV and their children Josh Ingram, his wife Savanna, and their son Beckett, Andrew Ingram and his fiance Jonel Stevens, Hannah Ingram, and Luke Ingram; and many beloved nieces, nephews and special friends.
A funeral service will be held on June 8, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Private burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Make donations in her memory to your local church.
