A Pennsylvania snowbird who was arrested after celebrating Mardi Gras in The Villages won’t face prosecution on a charge of driving under the influence.
The prosecutor’s office has announced that 62-year-old Troy Lynn Long will not face prosecution in the DUI case due to insufficient evidence, according to an announcement of no information filed in Sumter County Court.
Long was driving a white Yamaha golf cart at about 6 p.m. Feb. 13 at Lake Sumter Landing when he was pulled over for having blue lights illuminating both sides of the bottom exterior of the golf cart, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
When a deputy approached the golf cart, he spotted an open 12-ounce Miller Lite beer can in an orange football koozie in the cup holder. Long, who was identified by his Pennsylvania driver’s license, admitted he had been drinking at the Mardi Gras celebration at the square. Three additional beers were found in a cooler in the golf cart.
Long, who purchased a villa this past June in the La Paloma Villas near the Tierra Del Sol Recreation Center, agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises, but his poor performance led deputies to conclude he had been driving impaired. However, he provided breath samples that registered a 0.000 blood alcohol content. He also provided a urine sample that was sent for testing to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
