A convicted New Jersey sex offender is back home with his mother in The Villages following his release from prison.

Robert Allen Gerber, 60, was released this past month from the Florida Department of Corrections. Upon his release, he moved back in with his mother at 2857 Barboza Drive in the La Crescenta Villas.

He had been convicted in 2023 of possession of child sexual assault material in New Jersey. He later came down to Florida’s Friendliest Hometown to take up residency but failed to properly register as a sex offender. He was sentenced to 30 months in state prison.

At the time of Gerber’s sentencing in 2024, the prosecutor’s office issued a statement indicating that tracking sex offenders is crucial to public safety.

“When a sex offender fails to comply with registration requirements, it poses a significant risk to public safety,” said Bill Gladson, Fifth Judicial Circuit state attorney. “These laws are in place to ensure law enforcement can track and monitor offenders to prevent repeat crimes. Compliance is crucial to provide an additional layer of protection for our community.”
