A date night that began at City Fire ended with a 72-year-old man behind bars after his request for a sexual favor was left unfulfilled, sparking a physical struggle over a can of beer.

Frank Bernard Arenas of Coleman was arrested Friday evening on a felony charge of battery on a person 65 years of age or older, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident came to light when the woman approached a deputy at Coleman City Hall to report the domestic altercation. She explained that the evening had started out smoothly with dinner at City Fire in Brownwood, followed by a stop at a local Publix to buy Arenas some beer.

However, the situation quickly soured once they returned home. Arenas allegedly asked the woman for a sexual favor, which she refused. The rejection sparked a heated verbal argument, during which Arenas reportedly taunted the woman by bringing up a past domestic situation that had resulted in her being arrested.

The argument eventually moved into the living room, where the woman told Arenas he needed to stop drinking. When she reached down to take away a nearby can of Foster’s beer, Arenas forcefully grabbed her hand to stop her. The arresting deputy noted the woman sustained a visible bruise on her right hand from his grasp.

Arenas was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $100 bond.
