A 20-year-old Wildwood man who allegedly threatened to “shoot up” his family’s home was arrested Sunday after a physical struggle with police.
Jacareon Travonte Douglas was taken into custody by the Wildwood Police Department on a misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer without violence.

Officers were dispatched to a residence on Gray Street at about 10:30 a.m. to investigate a 911 hang-up call. According to the arrest report, dispatchers could hear a juvenile in the background and another individual making statements about a firearm before the caller requested law enforcement and abruptly disconnected.
Upon arrival, officers met with Douglas’s aunt and grandmother. The aunt was visibly shaken and suffering from a panic attack that required emergency medical services to respond to the scene. She told police that Douglas had returned home after being away all night, appeared to be under the influence, and threatened to “shoot up this place.” She also claimed she saw him retrieve an unidentified gray object from his vehicle.
While officers were actively investigating, Douglas exited the residence and walked toward a vehicle. Officers approached him, explained they were investigating the incident, and attempted to conduct a weapons pat-down for officer safety.
Douglas repeatedly told officers, “Don’t touch me,” and attempted to walk back toward the residence. When officers moved to detain him, he actively resisted by pulling away, stiffening his upper body, locking his arms, and repeatedly yelling profanities.
After a prolonged struggle, officers were able to place him in handcuffs. However, Douglas then intentionally went limp and became “dead weight,” forcing officers to physically drag and carry him to the patrol vehicle. He continued to kick, scream, and physically resist as officers forced him into the back seat, and he remained combative throughout his transport to the jail.
Officers on the scene were ultimately unable to substantiate any further details regarding the firearm allegations, and no weapon-related charges were filed.
Douglas was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and has since been released after posting $1,000 bond.
