David Whitmore, 58, who resides on Turnberry Lane on the Historic Side of The Villages, was behind the wheel of a Toyota SUV at approximately 6:11 a.m. when he was spotted failing to come to a complete stop while leaving the retail area at NE 135th Crossing and entering U.S. Hwy. 441.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop on U.S. Hwy. 441 to address the violation. During the stop, a computer check of law enforcement databases revealed that Whitmore’s driver’s license was suspended.

Whitmore was taken into custody on a charge of driving while license suspended. He was issued a warning for the stop sign violation and a uniform traffic citation for the license suspension.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $1,000 bond.
