A woman driving with a suspended license offered a disjointed story about missing her driver’s license examination.
Leslie Ann Betancourt Feliciano, 39, of Zephyrhills, was behind the wheel of a silver 2010 Hyundai Elantra at about 10 p.m. Thursday when she was pulled over at the intersection of U.S. 301 and County Road 544 in Bushnell. A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy had initiated the stop after noticing the vehicle had inoperable tag lights.

During the traffic stop, the deputy discovered that Betancourt Feliciano’s driver’s license had been suspended in March 2023 for failure to meet a financial obligation. She was also unable to provide proof of valid insurance.
When the deputy asked if she remembered failing to appear for a required driver’s license examination, the native of Puerto Rico offered a disjointed response. She claimed she could not remember due to memory issues and instead began describing a 2023 traffic crash. She told the deputy she had been suffering from food poisoning on the day of that crash and was later instructed to retrieve her license plate from the vehicle but was unable to do so. She continued to ramble about the past incident but never provided any information regarding the missed license exam.
Betancourt Feliciano was arrested on a charge of driving while license suspended. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $500 bond.
