Villagers4Democracy have vowed that their upcoming July 4 sign-holding rally in The Villages will not be an anti-Trump protest.
Villagers are encouraged to join their neighbors and caravan by golf cart to the “Celebrate America” rally, scheduled for 10 to 11:30 a.m. July 4 at Morse Boulevard near Lake Sumter Landing. Caravans will be led by volunteers from The Villages Democratic Club.
Departure times and meeting locations are as follows:
-
9:15 a.m.: Eisenhower Recreation Center parking lot (arrive by 8:50 a.m. if you need to decorate your cart; some signs and decorating kits will be available).
-
9:30 a.m.: Colony Recreation Center parking lot (arrive at 9 a.m. to decorate).
-
9:30 a.m.: Spanish Springs (Ruby Tuesday parking lot; arrive at 9 a.m. to decorate).
Villagers4Democracy, which is organizing the event, stresses that this is not an anti-Trump protest. Instead, they describe it as a celebration honoring accomplishments—such as women’s suffrage, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil Rights Movement, and medical research—or historical figures who have “truly made America great,” including Sacagawea, Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Barack Obama, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
