
Donald Gene Bennett, 89, of Bushnell, Florida went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Don was born February 10, 1937, in Humboldt, Illinois, a son of the late Hugh E. Bennett and Irma M. (Daily) Bennett. His recent health issues brought to a close a wonderful life, well lived. He graduated from Mattoon Senior High School in 1955 and attended numerous college courses. He was engaged in the sale of wholesale television and electronic parts for 10 years. He then worked in the printing industry for 30 years until retirement in 2000 when he and Shirley moved to Bushnell, Florida.
Don enjoyed several fraternal organizations throughout his life. He was past Exalted Ruler of Effingham Elks Lodge, Tiler and Chaplain of the Illinois Elks Association, past Grand Exalted Ruler of the East Central District of Illinois, member of Masonic Lodge #149 of Effingham, Consistory of Scottish Rite 32 degree, Ainad Shriners East St. Louis, Shriners International, past president of Effingham Hearts Shrine Club Fire Patrol, member of Effingham OES Lodge #110, member of Okahumpka FOE 4273, member of Sons of American Legion 101 Bushnell, and a member of Bushnell Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley A. (McNary) Bennett, brother David L. Bennett, and brother Everett (EB) Bennett.
Don is survived by his daughter Terry (Bennett) Green of Bushnell, FL; three grandchildren: Paul Green (Jenna) of Melbourne, FL, Kelly Troby (William) of Janesville, IL, and Ashley Bryant (Kelly) of Shiloh, IL; two great-grandchildren: Lucas Bryant of Shiloh, IL and Kennedy Green of Melbourne, FL; and devoted companion Alison Reiners of Bushnell, FL.
Memorial service to be held at a later date. Purcell Chapel Bushnell in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or Illinois Elks Children’s Care Corporation.
