A 67-year-old resident of the Village of Duval was arrested Friday following a domestic disturbance at her home.
Machiel Ann Marino was taken into custody after Sumter County sheriff’s deputies responded to the residence at approximately 5:30 p.m.

According to the arrest report, Marino had been drinking throughout the day. A verbal argument at the home escalated when Marino allegedly threw a cell phone, striking a 71-year-old man in the lower chest. When the man attempted to contact the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Marino reportedly grabbed him by the neck in an attempt to take the phone away.
Witnesses at the scene, including another woman and a friend, corroborated the account. They told deputies they observed Marino throw the phone at the man and forcefully grab the other woman by the left arm during the altercation. The witnesses reported that Marino was “irate.”
Marino was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on charges of battery and battery on a person 65 years of age or older. She was released after posting $3,000 bond.
