Thomas Louis Bacsik

Thomas Louis Bacsik, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed into eternal life on June 25, 2026, at the age of 83. The Lord provided Tom the grace of being surrounded by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marlene, and his three children, Tom Jr., Michelle, and Cheryl. His life was cut short post a successful heart surgery of other complications. He led a full and vibrant life and positively impacted many people.

Tom was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 12, 1942 to Mary Emma Bednarik and Louis Joseph Bacsik. He graduated from Brush High School, and then Ohio University with a degree in civil engineering. He was an industrial project consultant, a general contractor, developer, and real estate broker. He spent his career in commercial construction, including high rise offices and residential buildings, a golf course, and commercial retail buildings. However, his favorite work was building custom homes and developing relationships with his clients. Many clients and colleagues were lifelong friends. Tom came to Lady Lake in 1989 after raising his family in Jacksonville, and he and Marlene became established members of the Lady Lake community.

Tom was involved in many social groups and his favorite volunteer effort was being a chairperson for TPC at Sawgrass and playing in the Pro-Am with Craig Stadler, “The Walrus”, and getting to know Jack Nicklaus. He has been an active member of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, being on the initial building committee. He lived his faith by quiet example.

Tom enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and pickle ball. Solving the daily sudoko was his morning challenge. He loved playing cards and games with his friends and family. He dominated the racquetball court when playing with his son and sons-in-law….and his favorite activity was to dance with his wife, Marlene (even in the kitchen!).

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Emma Bednarik and Louis Joseph Bacsik
and brothers-in-law Gene Briar, Joseph Schloss, and sister-in-law Rebecca Sturm Higman. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Marlene Joyce Sturm Bacsik, his sister Patricia Louise Bacsik Briar, his son Thomas Louis Bacsik Jr. (Angela), his daughters, Michelle Lynette Bacsik Shorter (John), Cheryl Nicole Bacsik Nitch (Matthew), his grandchildren Alexander Bacsik, Olivia Shorter, Nicole Bacsik, Noelle Shorter, Jacob Nitch, and Adelyn Nitch, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Tom taught by his quiet example. He was a strong, unwavering model of truth, love and hard work. He was a great listener, and he was a patient mentor for many. Tom will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who loved unconditionally, and who laughed and played with his children and grandchildren. He was a baby whisperer, and could always calm and sooth any fussy baby, no matter to whom they belonged. He was a loyal friend to many.

Tom was kind, had a big heart, a sense of humor, and quiet disposition. He always said there were talkers and there were listeners in the world, and he was a listener!
