As we celebrate the 250 year founding of our nation, most of us have very mixed and anxious feelings. As is said by many, never in the history of the world has there been this type unique experiment of government by the people in a democratic republic with an unprecedented amount of freedom. Yet, now that freedom and this system of government are at risk and are actively being undermined by dark money, compromised “bought and paid for” politicians, oligarchs and all powerful corporations drunk on unbridled power with no regulation or safeguards.

The future is unsure and very concerning. The huge gap in wealth between our poorest and our richest is at the highest in history. And, historically when this happens, there is revolution and huge societal upheaval resulting. It is imperative that ordinary people react and become involved to correct this aberration in our economy.

As Teddy Roosevelt said at the turn of the 19th Century, a time of previous wealth disparity during the era of “robber barons”, “To say you cannot be critical of a President or to continue to support him, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but morally traitorous to the American public.”
