Francis J. Murphy, 82, of The Villages, passed away on June 28th.

Francis was born in Boston, MA to Francis C. and Catherine B. Murphy on October 14th, 1943. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in chemical engineering from Northeastern University in 1966 and a Master’s of Science from the University of Massachusetts in 1972. He married Teresa Bourgault on July 22nd, 1967.

He worked as a chemical engineer for Monsanto for 33 years. He coached hockey in Trenton, MI for 30 years. He was awarded a Francis Ouimet Caddie Scholarship, elected to the Trenton Sports Hall of Fame, named Michigan Hockey Coach of the Year in 2005, and named a finalist for the US Olympic Committee Volunteer Coach of the Year. He enjoyed cruise vacations, golfing, and time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He is survived by his spouse, Teresa Murphy; children: Paul Murphy (Beth), Catherine Reilly (Paul), and Michelle Searfoss (Pete); grandchildren: Robbie (Lauren), Megan, and Ryan Murphy; Aidan and Finn Reilly; and Luke Searfoss.

Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, July 11, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 5323 E. County Rd 462, Wildwood, FL 34785.
