A trip to Waffle House to dish about a robbery ended in a felony charge for a Bushnell woman who decided to play amateur detective on Interstate 75.

Stephanie Ann Enos, 34, was arrested Monday afternoon after she allegedly recorded a secret interrogation of a male passenger while cruising down the highway on July 1.

According to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Enos invited the man to accompany her to a Waffle House in Brooksville under the guise of wanting to chat about a recent theft at her home. However, things got a little more “CSI” than scattered, smothered, and covered once they hit the interstate.

While driving, Enos allegedly placed a recording device face-up on her lap and secretly captured a video of herself grilling the man about entering her bedroom and taking her property. Florida is a two-party consent state, meaning it is a crime to record someone’s private conversation without their knowledge and permission.

The man only realized he had been the subject of a clandestine interview after the trip was over. Enos apparently sent the video to a female friend via Facebook Messenger. That friend promptly texted the video right back to the victim, who then contacted law enforcement to report the unauthorized recording.

Deputies viewed the footage, which started with a quick shot of the steering wheel before settling on the covert lap angle, clearly capturing Enos questioning her captive audience.

Enos turned herself in at Bob’s Bail Bonds in Bushnell on Monday to face a felony charge of illegal interception of communication. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $2,500 bond.
