A 51-year-old registered sex offender from Summerfield has been jailed after failing to report multiple changes to his employment status, including a new job at Cracker Barrel.

Lance Ellis Elane is required to register as a sex offender in Florida following a 1995 conviction in Washington for the first-degree rape of a child.

According to an arrest affidavit from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Elane reported to the sex offender unit on June 1 to complete his monthly re-registration. During the visit, he disclosed that he had started a new job at Cracker Barrel on May 31.

He also admitted he was no longer employed by Ally Waste, stating his last day was two weeks prior, and that he had been terminated from DZ Precast in April. Florida law requires sex offenders to report any changes to their employment within 48 hours. When asked why he did not report the changes within the required timeframe, Elane claimed he forgot and did not realize he had to report employment terminations.

Detectives noted that Elane had previously received verbal warnings in October 2025 and April 2026 for failing to report changes to his owned vehicles and employment status within the mandatory 48-hour window.

Following his June 1 registration, Elane was temporarily taken into custody under the Baker Act after he made statements about planning “suicide by cop” due to the investigation into his registration violations.

Elane is facing a felony charge of failing to report changes to employment information. He was being held without bond at the Marion County Jail.
