A burglar’s getaway golf cart ended up in a pond after a break-in at a newly constructed home on the Historic Side of The Villages.
The suspect, 46-year-old Michael Hawk who lives on Debra Drive in the Village of Orange Blossom Gardens, is charged with breaking into a new home on Silver Oak Avenue in the nearby Village of Silver Lake.
Police officers responded at about 7:11 a.m. Friday to a report of a golf cart partially submerged in a pond. They determined that golf cart belonged to Hawk, after it was towed out of the pond.
The house that had been burglarized backs up to the pond area and golf cart tracks were observed entering the front yard and sliding down the steep hill into the pond, according to Lady Lake police.
Officers located Hawk at his residence where they also located his wet clothing along with a stolen television and a set of keys belonging to the owners of the burglarized home on Silver Oak Avenue.
Hawk was placed under arrest and charged with burglary of an unoccupied residence and grand theft. He was booked into the Lake County Jail with bond set at $7,000.
