Villagers and area residents who have Kindles or Nooks they aren’t using are being encouraged to donate them to Rotary Club of The Villages – Evening or to Harbour View Elementary School.
The Rotary Club is working with the school to gain better access to clubs, organizations and businesses that typically show support in a variety of ways.
Harbour View Elementary has 850 students, many of them classified as underprivileged. Many come from families living in rural areas of Summerfield and most have no internet access. But with a Kindle or Nook, they will be able to access a free reading program the school is encouraging families to use at home. The students will be able to download the appropriate programs at school and then enjoy reading at home without a need for internet access.
Those wishing to donate can bring the electronic devices to Sue Bodenner at 1807 Estafana Way in the Village of Tierra Del Sol South. They can be placed in a box in a protected corner at the front door.
