A Villager has died from injuries suffered earlier this month when she was struck by a golf cart while out for a morning walk.
Joan Marie Colonna, 68, of the Village of Sunset Pointe, was pronounced dead at 7:55 a.m. Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A memorial service for Colonna will be held this weekend.
She had been airlifted Jan. 16 to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
Colonna had been walking with two friends that morning along Sunset Pointe Boulevard when she was struck from behind by a 2011 Polaris Breezes golf cart driven by 70-year-old Barbara Bess Ruhe of the Village of Sunset Pointe, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The impact knocked Colonna to the curb where she hit her head. Her walking companions, Dianne Marie Jens and Wendy Jens Remington, also of the Village of Sunset Pointe, were not injured.
Jens and Remington had been walking southbound on the sidewalk and Colonna was in the multi-modal lane when she was struck from behind by the golf cart.
Ruhe told the FHP investigator she had been “watching the white line between the travel lane and the cart lane to be sure that she did not cross over it,” according to the accident report.
The trooper noted in the report that Ruhe had been “inattentive.”
