Fred was born August 10, 1929 in Leetonia, Ohio and died June 18, 2013 at 10:40 a.m. at The Villages Hospital, The Villages, FL of cardiac failure.
Fred leaves behind his wife of 30 years Beverly Rudibaugh Grappy, children Steven Grappy (Patty Howe) of Columbiana, OH, Craig Fultz of London, OH, Laura Nappi of Columbiana, OH, and Elizabeth (Robert) Hunt of Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren Nathan Steele (Misty Kennedy) of El Paso, TX, Emma Nappi and Luke Nappi of Columbiana, OH and Grace Fultz of London, OH, and many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers-in-law and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Devere Grappy of Leetonia, OH and his sister, Sallie Grappy Wenzen of Puyallup, WA.
Fred’s love of family was first and foremost, but he also had a love of all things related to The Ohio State University, the Buckeyes and notably Ohio State Football! He was a loyal alumni of Leetonia High School and the Bears.
Fred was an extremely loyal man in every aspect of his life, was very patriotic and proud of his country and always felt it is a privilege to live in the United States of America.
Anyone who knew Fred and had any kind of conversation with him, knew he was wise in just about every area of life, had a story to go with his wisdom and would happily share with anyone willing to listen. He loved people and life, and sharing his knowledge to help others have a quality of life themselves. Perhaps you had a conversation with him about history, local or military, old or classic cars, travel, dental, health or nutrition, the list is endless!

He grew up in Leetonia, Ohio, graduating Leetonia High School, 1947
Graduated The Ohio State University, 1951, BA, 1955, DDS
Served in the Dental Corps of the US Army, active duty, 1955-57 and provided dental care to the 11th and 101st airborne divisions.
He served as an Inactive US Army Reserves, 57-63 and was honorably discharged, 63 .
Returned to Columbiana, OH in 1957 to begin private dental practice until his retirement, in 2001.
During that time also served Fairfield Township as a trustee for 16 years
County Boy Scout Council, 6 years
Various committees in the Columbiana United Methodist Church for 20 years
Provided dental health education to Columbiana elementary school students
Provided dental health education and exams to Robert Bycroft students
Provided dental care to Head Start students and foster children

Held an active real estate license for 40 years
Following his retirement from dentistry, he served on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Columbiana County for 7 years to include president for 3 years.
Fred would want those who knew him and loved him to live with a quality of life and realization of what was most important, the love of family, friends and country. His passing will be deeply felt by many.
A memorial service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services – The Villages on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior.
