7d06b609616668a1John Harrigan Smith, 82, The Villages, FL, widower of Jean Smith, passed away quietly in his sleep on Friday, June 21, 2013. He was born August 24, 1930, son of the late Robert and Helen Smith. He lived in The Villages for the past 24 years after retiring from his career in Civil Service in Beaufort, South Carolina. John was an avid softball player, bowler and square dancer. He was a member of American Legion Post #347 and was proud of being a Navy veteran. During his lifetime he accomplished many things including inventing a device to make pugil sticks more efficent, owning his own business as a tiler, and marrying the woman of his dreams. One of his greatest accomplishments was becoming an author when he wrote his autobiography. He is predeceased in death by his wife, parents and two sisters Roberta Milne and Ethel Sacher. He will be deeply missed by daughters Carroll Raxter (Glenn), Deborah Smith and Michelle Smith. Brothers Robert Smith (Dorothy), James Smith, Thomas Smith (Barbara) and Fred Smith (Shelia). Grandchildren Jacquelyn Thompson, David Schlachter (Olivia), Stephen Schlachter (Jamie), Ivy Parrish (Lance) and 5 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at The Lady Lake Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home Friday June 28, 2013 from 5:00-7:00PM. His friends and relatives are invited to attend a celebration of his life Saturday, June 29, 2013 at St. George Episcopal church in the Villages at 10:00AM.
