The remaining pieces of the “Berlin Wall” have been hauled away from where they had been stacked near the golf cart thoroughfare near Paradise Drive on the Historic Side of The Villages.

The wall went up in the wee hours of Aug. 10 and set off a firestorm of protests, including a rally Aug. 12 in downtown Spanish Springs Town Square.

The wall was dismantled on Aug. 16.

However, the pieces had remained at the site after they had been taken down with a crane.

An overflow audience voiced its displeasure with the wall at the Aug. 19 Lady Lake Commission meeting. Officials said the wall had not received proper permits prior to its erection.
