Wearing crazy cowboy boots and a red-white-and-blue necktie, U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson showed up late but was worth the wait said Democrats who gathered to hear him speak Saturday morning at Colony Cottage Recreation Center.
Grayson joked about telling an associate that he was speaking to Democrats in The Villages.
His friend was a little surprised.
“That’s like talking to Hebrews at the Vatican,” Grayson said his friend replied.
The Orlando Democrat boasted that Slate magazine had named him the most effective member of Congress.
And he showed no love for his Republican colleagues in the House.
“There seems to be this notion that if we all got together and ate dinner we would be able to get something done. We might get fatter. Besides the Republicans already have dinner plans with lobbyists,” Grayson said.
He reminded the audience of his now infamous statement, “If you get sick America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly!”
He pointed out that he had made that statement four years ago.
“And the Republicans have yet to come up with a better plan,” he said.
The crowd was generous with its applause and filled the large meeting room at Colony Cottage.
