An 81-year-old Lady Lake man was killed and his passenger was seriously injured Sunday evening when their SUV crashed into a guardrail and several trees.

The man was driving a 2026 Subaru Forester eastbound on Griffin Avenue just west of Grays Airport Road at 6:51 p.m., according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, causing the vehicle to run off the left side of the roadway. The SUV then collided with a guardrail and several trees.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 79-year-old Lady Lake woman, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The FHP report indicated it is currently unknown whether the occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
