Villager Debbie Harrington shows off two flashers purchased through the CIC’s Brite @ Night program.

Debbie Harrington and her walking group cover anywhere from 4 to 14 miles in their daily treks.

But the Village of Santo Domingo resident and her friends recently switched from walking in the daytime to walking at night.

“We are on a walking tour to see the Christmas lights,” she said.

So when she learned that the Community Improvement Council would be hosting a Brite @ Nite event at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square, she was sure to show up.

The Brite @ Nite program is an on-going program to ensure that residents of The Villages are visible to oncoming vehiclular traffic. The flashers have three different light patterns to increase visibility.

The flashers cost $3. The money is used to purchase more flashers.

The program has been hugely popular, said Paulette Graeven of the CIC.

Thousands of flashers have been distributed through the program which is offered the third Thursday of each month at Market Square.
