To the Editor:
I want to thank the Lady Lake Police Department (LLPD) for their regular patrolling of The Villages district streets, most particularly Chula Vista Avenue. It is apparent that they are patrolling Chula Vista Avenue at regular intervals and are effective when they are here. Sadly that doesn’t work when the patrols aren’t here. I just witnessed a car heading toward Spanish Springs on Chula Vista Avenue doing at least 45 MPH, if not faster. This at 3:30 PM, or there abouts on March 12, 2014.
We need to do what ever is necessary to slow and reduce traffic on the residential streets of The Villages. To me this includes returning Chula Vista Avenue to a residential street by returning it to its pre 1995 status by closing the La Zemora gate if necessary.
Other choices are:
1. to place No Through Traffic and No Truck Traffic signs at both ends of Chula Vista Avenue,
2. reducing the speed limit on Chula Vista Avenue to 20 Miles Per Hour thus bringing the speed limit into compliance with other areas of The Villages,
3. placing four way stop signs and speed bumps at Palermo Place and Ventura Drive,
4. placing speed bumps at appropriate intervals along Chula Vista Avenue
It is interesting to note that Bachara Boulevard traverses from Avenida Central to Main Street has a speed limit of 20 MPH yet just 11 entrances that do not require back out traffic and two cross streets with no back out residential driveways. Chula Vista Avenue on the other hand traverses from CR 466 to Rio Grand Avenue has over 50 back out residential driveways and two cross streets yet a speed limit of 25 MPH. This does not make sense to me.
Yours most sincerely,
