The Amenity Authority Committee has approved drawings for the new Tierra Del Sol and El Santiago Recreation Centers.

The approval of the drawings will allow for the next steps in the process, including preparations to go out for bid.

The approvals drew applause from audiences members following the vote Wednesday on each of the proposed projects.

It’s been a long road for both projects.

“I don’t know that we could ask for anything more,” said Village of Palo Alto resident Tootie Jackson who has advocated for more than two years for the improvement of the Tierra Del Sol Recreation Center.

She added that her only regret is that her late husband will not be here to see the finished recreation center.

The El Santiago project has been more contentious due to mixed opinions on re-establishing a restaurant at the site.

Over the past year, plenty of discussion has centered on the now-defunct El Santiago Club restaurant. Many emphatically said they wanted to see a restaurant back in the location.

Plans presented Wednesday showed an area for an outdoor, covered cafe. Hopes for some type of concession arrangement have been expressed.

No contracts have been secured for food and beverage service at the cafe planned for the new El Santiago Recreation Center.
