To the Editor:
My husband and I took lessons at Palmer before we made the decision to pursue playing golf, and it was one of the best decisions we made. My biggest fear in playing golf was…. what if I can’t get the ball in the hole???!!! Our instructor, Maria Brooks, told us there is the pace of play to be aware of…. if you cannot get the ball in the hole after double par, you pick up the ball and move to the next hole. End of story!!! And so the decision was made, because in my mind, I figured I could pick up my ball with the best of them, and move to the next hole.
I use the yellow friendly tees on the Championship courses, I pick up my ball at double par, and I allow myself ONE mulligan per 9 holes. We give gimmies for close to the hole, all in order to move things along.
If more people followed the rules, and used COMMON COURTESY there would be NO NEED for larger holes.
