To the Editor:

Recently I wrote to a person close to the situation if he could at least offer me some insight into why the course conditions here in The Villages are so inferior now than the other courses in the area. I understand that greens aeration are a necessity and was not referring to that, however fairways, tees and rough area are dried out, lacking grass and generally in very poor condition. And the greens on many courses have just dirt patches in many areas. Why is this happening? Lack of water? Why is it that other area courses can maintain their conditions but TV seems to be “saving” their water? Is the expansion of TV causing this? As soon as the snowbirds leave and the rates drop it seems the conditions deteriorate each year but this year especially. I did not receive an answer from that person so I am still looking for reasons for the general lack of care Villages championship courses seem to be getting.
