A man wanted on warrants for armed burglary in Sumter and Marion counties was arrested Friday by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.
The SWAT responded to a call at 10:40 a.m. in which a woman reported her ex-boyfriend came to her house in Belleview, kicked in a door and fired shots threatening her. During the incident, the gun jammed and the victim was able to flee the residence to a relative’s nearby home.
Nineteen-year-old Steven Johnson barricaded himself inside the victim’s house, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.
The MCSO Negotiations Team responded, as well as Lake and Alachua County sheriff’s offices. During the stand-off, deputies confirmed the suspect had two felony warrants for armed burglary in both Marion and Sumter counties. After several hours, the SWAT Team made entry and located

the suspect in a bedroom closet. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered.
Johnson is charged with domestic aggravated assault with a firearm and occupied burglary with a firearm. He was also charged for the two outstanding warrants for armed burglary. Additional charges are pending.
“I am thankful all of our SWAT members avoided injury or harm and did a tremendous job in successfully apprehending a dangerous individual,” Marion County Sheriff Chris Blair said. “I also want to thank Lake and Alachua County Sheriff’s Offices who assisted our SWAT Team today.”
