A 19-year-old University of Florida student was killed in an accident early Sunday morning on the Florida Turnpike near Wildwood.

She and the four passengers in her vehicle were all students or recent graduates of the University of Florida.

Emily Aultman of Orange Park was southbound at 1:05 a.m. in a 2000 Ford Explorer on the turnpike at Mile Marker 304 when she lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.

A semi driven by Edward Jones, 69, of Bonifay, hit the overturned vehicle which was blocking the roadway. Two of the occupants of the Ford Explorer were able to crawl out of the vehicle before the collision with the semi.

The four passengers in the Aultman’s vehicle were all transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center. They have been identified as:

• Joshua Acre, 23, of Panama City;

• Joel Beck, 23, of Panama City;

• McKenzie Lent, of Gainesville;

• Melanie Griffith, 21 of Palm Beach Gardens.

“There was no signs or indications of alcohol or contraband contributing to the crash all occupants were wearing seatbelts,” the accident report completed by the Florida Highway Patrol stated.

Autlman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Jones escaped injury as did a passenger in the semi, 56-year-old Rebecca Jones of also of Bonifay.
