A 67-year-old man who allegedly attempted to steal dress pants and two belts from Belk in The Villages, was apprehended by police after a brief chase.
Patrick McGrain of Baton Rouge, La. is free on $4,500 bond after his arrest Sunday on charges of grand retail theft, resisting a retail merchant and fleeing and eluding.
A loss prevention officer at the store at 1020 Bichara Blvd. told Lady Lake police that he saw McGrain enter the store, select the belts and pants, put them in a black purse and leave the store without paying for the items.
The loss prevention officer chased McGrain who had gotten into his vehicle and started to drive away. In the process, McGrain’s vehicle almost hit a golf cart, the loss prevention officer told police. Two Lady Lake squad cars arrived on scene and blocked McGrain’s vehicle after a brief chase during which McGrain ran a stop sign, the arrest report indicated.
The belts and pants had a value of $335.98
