One in four children living in Central Florida are considered food insecure. Throughout the week they receive subsidized meals at school but many children leave school on Friday, not knowing where their next meal is coming from, according to Deliver the Difference, the Tavares-based food distribution agency, that works to fill the gap.
Each week more than 600 bags of food, each containing two breakfasts, two lunches, fruits, juice boxes, and snacks are packed by Kidspack volunteers at the Tavares warehouse and distributed to 15 local area schools.
Assistance is needed to make sure these children continue to receive food for the days they are not in school. If you are a member of a social or hobby group, church, or service organization, you can help.
A representative from Deliver the Difference is available to speak to your group about the Kidspack program and our new food collection system, give additional information, and provide shopping bags for the collection of food.
