A proposal for side striping on multi-modal paths will be heard in the upcoming Multi-Modal Path Discussion Group Workshop.
The workshop will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 5 at Eisenhower Recreation Center.
At Monday morning’s Project Wide Advisory Committee, District Manager Janet Tutt said she has met with Kimley-Horn and Associates engineer Richard Busche and raised the notion of side-striping on golf cart paths.
The idea of side striping previously has been broached in the ongoing discussion about striping to increase visibility on multi-modal paths in The Villages.
Busche will present his ideas on side striping at the May 5 workshop. The side striping, which could actually be a series of reflectors, could cost about $1,000 per mile.
Community Development District 10 Supervisor Don Wiley, a member of PWAC, said it was good to see the option coming from Kimley-Horn.
“In the past the discussion has been ‘no we can’t,no we can’t,'” Wiley said. “This is a step in the right direction.”
PWAC members have indicated they are anticipating a strong turnout at the workshop and expect many residents will want to speak.
To keep the meeting productively moving forward, PWAC members agreed to the following rules for public comment:
1. Signup cards will be offered for those who want to speak.
2. Public comment will be limited to two minutes, per person.
3. The total public comment period at the meeting will be limited to one hour.
4. PWAC has the discretion to weed out duplicative comments.
Nearly everyone agrees that The Villages, with its miles of multi-modal paths, has a unique traffic challenge.
Many see the upcoming workshop as a chance to stay ahead of the challenges.
“We have a problem here in The Villages, which we all agree. We want to solve this problem in the best interests of the residents,” said Amenity Authority Committee member and CDD 4 supervisor Don Deakin. “We are all on the same side. It’s just a question of how we get there.”
