Imagine a Broadway audition for unknown performers trying to be part of a tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Rodgers and Hart.
It sounds like a music lovers dream, and the Off Broadway Players are about to turn it into reality. “Broadway Dreamers: The Musical” will be presented Monday, April 27 and Tuesday, 28 at 7 p.m. in the Savannah Center. Tickets are available at The Villages Box Office locations, and all proceeds go to local charities.
Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein III – and Rodgers and Lorenz Hart – wrote the some of the most memorable musicals and songs in American history.
The Rodgers and Hammerstein shows include, “Oklahoma,” “The King and I” “The Sound of Music” and “South Pacific,” just to name a few. Rodgers and Hart songs include such memorable tunes as: “This Can’t Be Love,” “Where or When,” and “The Lady Is A Tramp.”
The plot for “Broadway Dreamers…” goes like this:
A Broadway director is holding auditions for a new musical using songs written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Rodgers and Hart.
Those auditioning must make their presentations fit the song they perform. A host of singers and dancers show up and display their energy and talent to impress the director.
A slide presentation will be shown to accompany the scenes and costumed dancers.
This stage play will be presented to an audience seated at round tables. Those attending are invited to bring their own beverages and snacks.
