Community Improvement Council members donate the first wheelchair at Savannah Center.

The Community Improvement Council has launched an effort to put a wheelchair in each of the regional recreation centers.

The CIC donated the first wheelchair to Savannah Center on Friday.

The wheelchair will be available upon request to any resident in the facility.

A plaque on the back of the wheelchair indicates who donated it.

Similar to the popular park bench program, those interested could donate a wheelchair and put a plaque on it in memory of a loved one. A wheelchair costs about $260.

The Community Improvement Council (CIC) was organized in 1985 to serve the community as a liaison between the residents, the Developer, and the Community Development Districts (CDDs). The CIC members provide a voice for the ideas and suggestions that are provided by residents of The Villages. Many aspects of The Villages lifestyle are the result of CIC efforts to turn ideas into reality.
