At the Sept. 5 meeting of The Villages Pops Chorus, the group made two donations from the proceeds of their August Concert, “Dancin’ In the Streets.” The donations were for $1,000 each, and were made to All One Family and Deliver the Difference. A donation was also made to North Lake Presbyterian Church.
The Villages Pops Chorus was founded in late 2013, and began rehearsals in January 2014. Leader of the group, Bill Davis, said members have two primary objectives: to give Villages residents an opportunity to sing popular music arranged in choral settings; and to raise funds for charitable organizations by holding concerts.
“We are also committed to having fun while presenting concerts of a high quality. We operate as a not-for-profit organization, and all of our members are volunteers, including the director and accompanist. We have recently filed for 501c3 charitable organization status under the Federal tax Code,” Davis said.
“As a result of the success of our first 5 concerts, we have been able to contribute a total of $15,000 to deserving organizations. Our chorus has about 145 singers at each concert, and about 200 different people have sung in our concerts so far; we have a waiting list of over 60 people,” he said.
The Pops Chorus is now in rehearsals for their Holiday Concert, “We Need a Little Christmas” to be presented on Dec. 7 at North Lake Presbyterian Church.
