The Community Emergency Response Team will offer a class on surviving an active shooter situation from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8 at La Hacienda Recreation Center.

The presentation will offer information on maximizing your survival chance during an active shooter incident.

The class was originally planned for Bacall Recreation Center on Jan. 13.

“It was moved to allow us the space to invite the general public,” said Wayne Ward of CERT.

“The local police and fire departments have had in-depth training on this type of emergency and now it is our turn, the intended victims, to receive training also. For those of you that say that it can’t happen here, much like the victims in San Bernardino and the other 365 mass shootings that occurred during 2015 said, I hope that you are right and I also hope that collecting information from FEMA, the FBI and the Houston Sheriff’s Department for this presentation was a waste of my time.”

You can reserve a spot for this presentation by emailing CERT at [email protected].
